Lakatosh the Red
Lakatosh was the son of a Hungarian high lord who commanded the Hungarian armies that fought and lost against the Ottomans. This lord was a smart, honest, and fearless man. So when brought before Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, the Sultan offered him the position of ruler of the conquered lands on behalf of the Ottoman Empire. However, to prove his loyalty, one of the Sultan’s conditions was that his son Lakatosh had to be raised in Istanbul and join the elite Ottoman force responsible for protecting the royal palace. As intelligent as his father, Lakatosh rose to be head of that force. Following his father’s death, Suleiman the Magnificent appointed him to rule the Hungarian lands. (Lakatosh lived to experience the reigns of three Ottoman sultans.)
