The Hittite sun disc is an Anatolian symbol dating back to the 5th century BCE. It’s believed the object was first used to locate the stars. It later played a symbolic role in sacred mourning ceremonies, where it was placed between two ox horns (perhaps representing the Earth) and crowned a scepter. In my interpretation, I’ve eliminated these details and focus on the sun’s course. I chose natural rug wools for the sun figure to emphasize its life-giving nature.
