Amulet

This tapestry is from my collection entitled, ‘Sixty, Seventy Shooed to Eternity’ (a traditional prayer to ward off the Evil Eye), and combines the Evil Eye theme with a traditional Turkish kilim pattern. The triangular amulets often represented in 16th/17th-century Bergama rugs are said to have magical powers. Here the Evil Eye and amulet have been interpreted abstractly, shorn of excess details.
