At the age of 20, I moved with my husband from Limassol to the old walled city of Famagusta. I was very impressed by bits and pieces of the city’s historic layers—scattered all around Famagusta, as if by a very strong gale wind. They reflect the chaos caused by the many conflicts, riots, sieges, and wars that occurred there. Sadly, the events of 1974 caused my entire family to be removed from their houses, hometowns and childhood memories in the south to the northern part of the island.
