The Four Primary Forces

The lower portion of this jug gourd is painted with ancient Uighur manuscripts, signs, and totems. Four Buddha dolls look towards the four cardinal directions. Symbols of the four primary forces—fire, water, earth, air—are depicted between the dolls.
