Grandfather’s Street

Hashim18.JPG

Oil on canvas & wood, 40 x 33 cm, 500 USD

This mixed media piece depicts a street I discovered during my 2006-07 visit to the timeless Silk Road oasis city of Kashgar, prior to the destruction of the Old City and the construction of a “new” Old City. The windowed room suspended over the narrow pathway is a summer terrace used for drying grapes. The open gate beckons you to explore the Uighur peoples’ ancient history and culture.
