Blueprints of a Fallen Empire

Cyanotype, acrylic, spray paint & oil pastel on paper, 45” x 33.5”, 4,000 USD

This work was started with broom brushstrokes over the cyanotype. The photo negatives used are from photographs I took around West Oakland, California. This project explores beautiful decay and signs of fallen empire.

Curator’s Note: A cyanotype (also known as a blue-print) refers to a printing process in which light and dark tones are reversed, and involves placing an object or photographic negative on photo-sensitized paper or cloth, and then exposing it to sunlight or an UV-lamp.
