After the Plague

Still in Covid isolation, I made this tableau to herald future joy and freedom. In exploring the theme of spiritual renewal, my diverse inspirations included the ceiling mosaic of  ‘The Baptism of Christ in the River Jordan’ at the Arian Baptistery in Ravenna, Italy, ‘The right hand of God’ at the Basilica di San Marco in Venice, Italy, and photos of a masked-me taken by Wendy F. Lang as I emerged from her swimming pool in the 70’s. (Byzantines did not approve of depicting the full figure of God, and used just the hand as a symbol of divine blessing.)
