This is a portrait based on a girl from the Inupiaq village of Shaktoolik, an Alaskan community threatened by erosion and global warming. Sundogs are natural halos created by the refraction of sunlight by ice crystals. This portrait of the girl and the silver fox represents the belief that all things, inanimate and living, are imbued with divine light.
