Pineapple
This is the only handmade quilt I’ve ever made. I chose the Amish “Pineapple” design (representing “hospitality”), and used a combination of antique family materials from my grandmother’s chest. The pink squares are cut from an old dress; the green fabric is from old window curtains. The pinks and reds are unused old silk. The black fabric is taffeta, and the tassel was also my grandmother’s. The small blocks are arranged so when pieced together, it looks like a pineapple. In total, there are 1,260 pieces. It took a whole year to complete. I’m proud to say that it was displayed in Istanbul’s Sadberk Hanım Museum as part of a 1990 group exhibition arranged by our quilting teacher Sevim Hanif.
