Log Cabin

Cotton, 220 x 220 cm, Private Collection

The “Log Cabin” pattern represents the way the Amish build the roofs of their buildings. Machine-made, it was a wedding gift for my daughter-in-law, Kristine Gerchow Sezer. Together we chose colors inspired by the brightly painted houses I saw while visiting her native country, Costa Rica. She chose autumn colors, so I bought the cotton material from Costa Rica, and in subsequent trips from New York and London. I arranged the seven different fabrics in order to produce an optical illusion.
